Family Connect

Paul De Boom

President of SMCC Family Connect

Hello everyone,

Last Friday night I had the pleasure of presenting a small gift to members of the Year 12 cohort on behalf of Family Connect at their Graduation Dinner.

During the night two things came to mind.

Firstly, for the graduating students this was “their” night and one we hope was enjoyable and memorable despite the continuing COVID limitations and the impacts this has caused throughout their final year. Despite restrictions, the night was a glamorous occasion. Maintaining the tradition for final year students of past years, Family Connect were happy to provide a College embossed travel mug that provides a memory of the good times at St Mary’s College and the challenges this cohort has had to overcome.

On behalf of Family Connect we hope you enjoy your gift and, in the months, and years ahead of you still look fondly on that mug and your special night.

On other matters, with limited avenues of supporting students at the school this year, the Committee voted to financially support the purchase of the portable stage used for the first time at the Graduation Dinner. We see great benefit in having this stage which will be used frequently for College events.

On Tuesday 20th October at our General Meeting, we were pleased to be able to offer financial support to the SMCC Run Squad to raise awareness and vital funds for the Indigenous Marathon Project. The Committee also were pleased to support the SMCC Touch Football Academy, with financial support to allow students to achieve their Level 1 Referee’s Qualification.

The AGM Family Connect Meeting will be held on 10th November at the College, commencing at 5:15pm in the School Library where all Committee positions will be open to nominations. We encourage interest whether it be on the Committee or as a Family Connect Member to continue to strive for positive influence on our children/students’ environment and the greater School community. Please join us to begin planning for the year ahead in 2021.
