To our St Mary’s Community
Term 4 has begun with a flourish of activity. This term is certainly our shortest and arguably our busiest term. As a College, we look forward to consolidating our hard work through the year and coming together to celebrate our many achievements. This term also sees our Year 12 students become the first cohort to sit external exams under the new Queensland Certificate of Education system.
YEAR 12 GRADUATION DINNER
Last week we hosted our 2020 Graduation Dinner. This was like no other, as our very own Nazareth Pavilion was the setting for this important event. The open-air advantage of our Nazareth Pavilion meant we were able to host larger numbers, ensuring parents were able to join in these important celebrations.
It was an incredible night; made possible only through the amazing work of St Mary’s staff and students. I am sure you will get a sense of how special the evening was from the many photos that will follow. I am very grateful to all who were involved in the event. Your efforts have been acknowledged by the many emails and messages from Year 12 students and their parents. Thank you!
YEAR 12 EXTERNAL EXAMS
Our Year 12 students enter their three - week exam period, beginning next week. As I move through the College, I have been impressed with how well our students have been using these final weeks to focus on their preparations for these exams.
I ask that you keep our Year 12 students in your thoughts and prayers as they enter this important exam period.
2021 COLLEGE CAPTAINS
Last week we announced our College Captains for 2021. Congratulations to Imogen Harris and William Galvin. These announcements came after an extensive process involving written applications, interviews, speeches and student and staff voting. We had many outstanding applications for College Captain and we now look forward to confirming our Prefects and House Captain positions. I know that our Student Leaders, along with the entire Year 12 cohort, will be an outstanding group in 2021.
WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY – FRIDAY 30th OCTOBER
Next week we celebrate World Teachers’ Day. For us it is an opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful work done each day by our teachers.
The reputation of the teaching profession takes its fair share of knocks. However, it is times like this that we are able to focus of the wonderful service it actually provides our community. I recall a bumper sticker referring to teaching as a “work of heart” and I am reminded that I am so blessed to be leading a College where I witness this being lived out each day by the wonderful staff we have at St Mary’s.
God Bless
