United Nations Model Conference

Careers News

The Yr 11 Australian & Global politics class (and some Yr 12 Global Politics students) attended a United Nations Nation’s Model conference at Ivanhoe Grammar School. A Model United Nations is a simulation of the UN General Assembly. The Model UN Assembly runs according to the UN protocols and procedures followed by the UN General Assembly.

As an assembly delegate, you will step into the shoes of a country ambassador to the UN to discuss global issues on the UN’s current agenda and find ways of addressing these issues.

They presented an allocated country’s position on Human Rights and Artificial Intelligence and put forward amendment(s) to a Draft Resolution, and sought support from other country delegates by collaborating, debating, and using your negotiation and diplomacy skills.

The students were fantastic on what was an exhausting, challenging day. Overcoming initial fears, student’s confidence grew as they argued and debated their positions before a final Resolution was adopted. Thanks to Toula Adamopoulos and Karina and Ethan from Melbourne University who provided awesome support for the students on the day. A big shout out to Patrick, Isabelle, Page and Angelina from Yr 12 who were legends and also offered considerable assistance to the Yr 11’s.
