Thank you one and all

Aristotle was a very wise man. He wrote 14 books on Metaphysics alone. He was a deep thinker and constantly tried to go deeper. Metaphysics means beyond physics. He thought about the essence of a thing, as well as its composition. What, for instance, is the essence of a 'tiger' that makes it a tiger and not just a big cat?

A quote of his that describes this is, “the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.”

It means that a single thing that is made of many separate parts can be more important, more useful, more beautiful, or in some other way "greater" than all of the separate parts on their own.

It can be applied to complex human systems, such as a school: when many people work together on a challenge, they can often achieve more than they would if each person worked individually.

To me, a modern way to describe this would be synergy. Synergy - where we all synchronise our energy and bring it together to achieve a great goal.

This quote, "the sum of the parts is greater than the whole", and the term "synergy", sums up our school and the parts that comprise it.

We are made up of many wondrous parts - children, staff, Board, parents, extended family and community. So many people all playing their part - all coming together and combining together to make something so much greater, so much more beautiful, special and awesome.

Thank you to every one of you for being a part of our school whānau. As I said last year, it has been a hard year - again - but we are believing for a better, brighter 2023 ahead. I believe, with the parts we have here, the sum of those parts in 2023 will produce something great and greater, yet again.
