Cricket News

After a solid day back in January, the Girton Year 8 boys and I found ourselves in the regional final for cricket on Monday 10th October.

We won the toss and decided to bat first. Ollie M started off the batting with Byron but was unfortunate to find a top edge off his bat which resulted in an early wicket for BSE. A steady partnership started to form. Byron looked to be on a tear as he sent them scattering to the boundary. But as soon as we thought we were batting well, a sudden string of wickets formed. We were now 3 for 40 around 4 overs in. Lewis R and Vincent C put on a steady partnership to slow the wickets down and they did their part. The batting was finished off, with some big hitters at the end such as Ben H, Felix K, and Mitch C. We finished up our batting with a solid total of 87 runs off our 20 overs.

We opened the bowling with Byron R and Mitch C. They started well by bowling a tight line with not that many runs scored off them. Our first wicket was bowled by Anas, which was a great ball, and caught by Lewis R. Unfortunately, from there BSE were just too good - they found the gaps and slowly got closer and closer to the target. They ended up getting our runs in the 14th over which meant they won. Our best bowler was Ollie M, taking two wickets for the day.

I would like to thank Mrs Holmes for taking time out of her day to help us, and I would also like to thank Nick Rowley and Will Bowles for the umpiring and scoring they did throughout the day.
