Week 1 & 2

It's been a busy start to the new school term for sport and our students have already represented our College with distinction.

State Swimming Championships

Last week, the School Sports Victoria State Swimming Championships were held in Melbourne at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. The championships bring together the best swimmers from around our state and this year our school was represented by Nicholas Brereton. Nick qualified in the 16 years 50m backstroke, having previously won both the Goulburn Murray and Hume Region events in Term 1. Nick’s swimming has improved in leaps and bounds since joining the Shepparton Swimming Club in 2018 and his results this year are a great reward for effort.

Our school is rightly very proud of Nick’s achievement and many classes took the time at lunchtime last Wednesday to tune into the SSV live stream of his event. Nick once again gave his all in his event, eventually finishing with 5th place. It is a great achievement for Nick and we congratulate him once again.

Hume Region Volleyball

Last term our intermediate boys’ volleyball team were successful in winning the Goulburn Murray District Volleyball tournament. As a result, the team gained qualification to the Hume Region final, held at the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre in Albury on Wednesday.

The boys played in a round robin competition against Corryong Secondary College and Cathedral College Wangaratta with the prize being state qualification. The competition was very tight with our boys being narrowly defeated in the first game by Corryong, 15-10 in the deciding set. They rebounded strongly in the second game however, with a dominant straight sets victory over Cathedral College in game 2.

It all came down to the game between Cathedral and Corryong with an unlikely win to Cathedral our boys only chance to make the state final. Unfortunately for our boys, Cathedral fell 2 points short of an upset, leaving our boys with a well deserved 2nd place but with a newfound desire to return next year to make amends.

The boys were ably led by Mr Jack Collins as coach and we congratulate the team of Jamil Sasa, Shaun Morris, Essa Jafari, Ananiya Kibare, Asad Beet Sayed, Mustafa Akbari and Sajed Abbasi. Well done everyone.
