On Friday the 13th of May, the MGC rowing club celebrated the end of the 2021/22 season with the annual presentation night and boat christening. 

 

The night commenced with the following boat christenings, held on the lawn outside the Gillard Centre. Each boat was named in honour of a staff member or rower who had either excelled as an administrator or athlete.

  • Andrew Beck – Coxed Quad – Former MGC teacher, in charge of rowing who saved the 2019 season
  • Bethany Zmak – Single – Victorian Representative – Pathways, former MGC student, Australian Champion
  • Maddie Carman – Single – Victorian Representative – Pathways, former MGC student
  • Victoria Trentin – Single – Victorian Representative – Pathways, Australia U19 rower, current MGC student
  • Olivia Sargeant – Single – Victorian Rep Queens Cup, former MGC student, national champion

Once the boat christening had concluded, the festivities moved inside and the following rowers and coaches were recognized for their outstanding contribution to the MGC rowing club.

  • Junior rower of the year – Grace Rogerson 
  • Intermediate rower of the year – Anna Byrne
  • Senior rower of the year – Olivia Burns Bradley
  • Most improved rower of the season – Jade Simoni
  • Club spirit award – Victoria Trentin
  • Coach of the season – Veronique Villis
  • New coach of the season – Ellie Brennan
  • Cox of the season – Grace Illingworth
  • Crew of the season – Senior Div 4 Coxed Quad: Grace Illingworth, Meghana Suddula, Estella Rios, Gracie Rawlinson, Eliza Johns, Emily Eastwood

On what was a fabulous night for the club and the rowing community, we were also excited to be informed that Victoria Trentin, one of our captains of boats and 2021 Victorian representative, had been selected for the Australian Under 19 Coxed Eight, and will be competing in Varese, Italy at the World Championships.

 

Thank you to all rowers, parents, volunteers, and the parents’ committee for the fabulous season. 

We are all looking forward to the 2022/23 season.
