Sustainability News

Ms Belinda Nechwatal, Sienna, Thien An & Henry

Hi everyone!

Xavier Students - thank you!

Thanks to some enthusiastic Xavier students for mulching our veggie garden with sugar cane mulch to help ensure our soil stays moist. Great work!

Thanks everyone for your great efforts in helping us live in a way that is kinder to our environment!

Exciting news! We have been successful with our application for a 2022 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant for our project,Trinity Bush Tucker Garden! This means $1000 in funding towards our project!

The aim of our project is to enhance our school garden area by creating a Bush Tucker Garden as part of our school’s sustainability and gardening programs. The children will be involved in researching Bush Tucker gardens as well as finding out about the native habitat of our area so that they can create a Bush Tucker garden area for our families. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include: learning about the importance of native habitats and developing skills in growing and promoting the importance of edible garden habitats.

Trinity Primary School is one of 1,054 primary schools and early learning centres throughout Australia receiving a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help grow our next generation of environmental champions.

The children and teachers are looking forward to working and learning from this project and we’ll keep you updated on the results.

Gardening Fun

We harvested and ate our first edible flowers! Calendula are beautiful yellow and orange, daisy type flowers, with purple middles. They taste delicious! Miss Belinda is going to bring us some other edible flowers too! We picked silverbeet, lettuce and raddishes today and mulched the garden with more pea straw so that the soil stays nice and damp for the plants.

We would love to see any photos of our produce taken home being included in your dinner!  If you take a photo, please send to bnechwatal@tcs.catholic.edu.au.

This week Gardening Club will be held on Friday (tomorrow) instead of Thursday.

Things we need!

We still need more paper bags to take our veggies home in. Please leave at the office, labelled “Miss Belinda”. Thank you!

Have a great week everyone!

Ms Belinda with the Sustainability team Sienna, Thien An & Henry.
