Year 7 Highlights

With only a couple of weeks of Year 7 left, we would like to congratulate the entire Year 7 cohort on their dedication and motivation towards their studies this year. Many have pushed outside their comfort zone and shown great growth in mindset and maturity.

Transition Leaders are making primary school visits to welcome our future Year 7 students to Glen Eira College and give them a taste of what they can expect. They have presented in front of students answering any questions or concerns that the primary school students might have. A big thank you to Alana Smith, Eve Gascoigne, Bennie Howell, Harshitha Meenakshisundaram and stand in Lambros Argiriou for all their hard work.

Bandfest was a great success with students from different schools coming to Glen Eira College and performing a range of music which was then recorded. Well done to Elizabeth Waters, Hanako Gunton, Soham Shinde, Nina Gibbs, Oskar De Bruin, Prajval Pramod Kumar, Harvey Edwards, Natalie Duieb, Akino Gudan and Crystal Cao for their great performance.

In athletics, Seif El Shorbagy continues his amazing form placing Silver in Hammer and Bronze in Javelin at the State All Schools Athletics Championship. Congratulations Seif.

Year 8 Highlights

Term 4 is flying by with our Year 8 Camp rapidly approaching - the students (and attending staff) are very excited for our upcoming time at Kangaroobie. We look forward to having 8B, 8C, 8D and 8E join us on Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th November, and 8A, 8F and 8G for Wednesday 27th to Friday 29th November. We look forward to sharing our camp experiences with you in the next newsletter.

Congratulations to all the Year 8s involved (including Freya Matthews who was part of the GEC organising committee) in this year’s Relay for Life event held on 26th October. In particular to the following students for your fundraising efforts: Ella Dry, Kayla Fox, Ines Gotmaker, Ben Lin, Freya Matthews, Erin McNaughton, Harriet Rowsell, Candice Roxas, Amelie Somers and Jay Trickey. There were also some Year 8 Instrumental Music students who performed on the day. We are so proud to have such enthusiastic students involved in our wider community, working together to support the Cancer Council.

Further congratulations to William Wong for his ongoing athletic success, this time winning Gold at the State All Schools Athletics Championships in 90m Hurdles and 200m Hurdles - in each event he was less than 0.1 seconds off the state record! A fantastic achievement - we wish him luck for his progression into Nationals.

We wish our Year 8s all the best in their final weeks of the Year 8 curriculum before transition classes and moving into Year 9.

Year 9 Highlights

As usual the Year 9s have been busy with the Year 9 program, attending Headspace, Safe Partying incursions and learning strategies to maintain a positive mindset throughout their time at school.

A special mention to Chloe Kaufman who finished 6th in discus and 7th in Javelin in the School Sport Victoria State Championship and to Haddi El Shorbagy who finished first in Javelin, Discus and Shotput.
