Library Corner

The Year 12 cohort has embarked on the serious business of final exam preparations and sitting their exams and many have found the Library a comfortable space for group and private study.

Earlier in the term Manga artist Kenny Chan was invited to workshop with our Book Club students during a scheduled Book Club lunchtime meeting. Kenny then presented a manga drawing session to Ms Monica Kartika’s 8F Japanese class. Book Club members thoroughly enjoyed their workshop, in particular those who had not been able to see Kenny Chan during the Melbourne Writer’s Festival excursion back in September. Congratulations to Diksha (8G) who won the Book Club Literary Kahoot Quiz and was awarded a Smiggle gift voucher. More Kahoot quizzes have been planned for future Book Club meetings.

Glen Eira College students celebrated Halloween with style. Library staff set up a ghoulish display which incorporated spooky reads as well as scary props supplied by Mrs Megan Gatt. Mrs Gatt also sculpted two mini sized pumpkins into Halloween heads and these were displayed on the Circulation Desk. Several Library Monitors assisted Mrs Gatt in adding finishing touches to the display. We were fortunate to take a selection of photographs before the “Halloween”ed students rushed off to Team. A week earlier the College celebrated Diwali and Mrs Gatt set up a small display of books and handmade flowers at the Circulation Desk.

Lunchtimes in the Library continue to be busy and it is lovely to see so many groups of students engaged in playing Uno, cards and board games.

The Library collections continue to swell with new titles - novels, manga, biographies, Minecraft guides. Lunchtime opening from 1:00pm onwards (Closed to general access during the fortnightly Book Club meetings)

Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school, 3:15pm to 4:30pm
