Creed Shield Soccer

The College Open Boys team’s 2021 campaign started and finished on the evening of 2nd August.

Our first game was against a strong Wagga Wagga High School team.  A lackadaisical start saw us go down by two goals after eight minutes. The team then started to find some determination and were able to get a goal back when Connor Summerhayes scored just before half-time.  Wagga Wagga High School responded with a goal shortly after half-time.  With renewed determination, we were able score two more goals, courtesy of Connor Summerhayes, to finish the game three apiece.

Wagga Wagga Christian College was the next opponent and this game was a spectator’s delight.  Sharp, skillful football played at a high pace saw each team attacking and defending as if their life depended upon it.  Nathan Mitchell in goal was a rock, denying the Christian College on many occasions. The Christian College were two goals up halfway through the second half, but we created an exciting finish after Clayton Gunning calmly slotted a penalty.

Better players on the evening were Connor Summerhayes, Caelan Gray, Clayton Gunning, Nathan Mitichell, Hugh Jenkins and Bryce Falepau.

The team was a credit to the College in their endeavor and sportsmanship.
