Meet our Captains
We're continuing to introduce our 2023 Year 12 Captains to the school community. This edition, we have the pleasure in introducing Emily, Alexa, Bridget and Ellie.
Emily D, Wellbeing Captain
Currently studying: I am currently studying Health and Human Development, Outdoor and Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Further Math, English and completed units 3&4 of Physical Education last year.
About me: I enjoy playing cricket and netball, hanging out with my friends and family. In the future I aspire to help with the issues of environmental sustainability and conservation. I applied for Wellbeing Captain to help improve the overall health and wellbeing of the students of Gisborne Secondary College.
Alexa K, College Vice Captain
Currently studying: This year I'm studying English Language, Literature, Psychology and Japanese, and I completed Year 12 Further Maths last year. My favourite subject is English Language, as I have great interest in linguistics.
About me: In my spare time I enjoy reading, playing the drums, watching movies, and collecting books and coins. In the future I'm hoping to work in Indigenous language conservation/research, so I'm planning to complete a bachelor's degree with my major in linguistics in the next few years. I'm also hoping to spend next year in Denmark on a working holiday visa, and to undertake the JET program in Japan after my bachelor's degree, as to learn more about foreign cultures and languages.
Bridget M, Sport Captain
Currently studying: I am currently studying Outdoor Education, PE, Health, Sociology and English.
About me: Sport has been a big part of my life since the day I could walk. Nowadays, I love footy the best, but as a kid I had tried almost every sport there is. In the future, I’d love to be working as an outdoor tour guide, with my passion for hiking and experience from family trips and the subject Outdoor Ed. As sports captain, I want to encourage every student to just give things a go and work hard because you never know where it could take you.
Ellie K, Sport Captain
Currently studying: Biology, English, General Maths, Chemistry, and Psychology and I did 3&4 PE last year which I really enjoyed doing.
About me: Outside of school I do many different sport activities and I like to compete in the school sporting activities such as athletic, cross country, swimming, and some of the team sports. I have done a sport trainer course which has lead me to being the sports trainer for the netball club on the weekend and this would help in the future job I would like to do which is to become a physiotherapist and work at a professional sporting club.
