A message from the THS Redevelopment Group

The THS redevelopment Group has had wonderful support from local MP Kat Theophanous who worked so hard to secure the $14.9 million funding for the next stage of the Thornbury High masterplan, a STEAM Centre.

This was the outcome of years of work behind the scenes with Kat, parents, staff and students working together to convince the Minister for Education to fund this next stage. The wonderful outcome in the Budget announcement means generations of Thornbury High students will benefit. To see the initial ideas for stage 2 of our masterplan, the brand new STEAM Centre, visit the THS Redevelopment Group website.

A message from Kat Theophanous

To the Thornbury High family,

What a day in Thornbury High’s history – a visit from the Premier to announce that the school will receive $14.9 million from the Andrews Labor Government to deliver the next stage of the school's master plan – a brand new STEAM learning centre!

It’s no coincidence that the Premier chose Thornbury High as the location for the announcement of the education component of this year’s State Budget.

Together with the school, I’ve been working hard within Government to make sure that every person with the power to make funding decisions knew exactly what was at stake at Thornbury High.

Like you, I know that the upgrades this funding will deliver are far more than bricks and mortar. They will transform the school and dramatically expand the opportunities that our young people will have available to them.

The case that we created and the positive campaign that we undertook was compelling – and together we made sure that the Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Education knew it.

So I say thank you. Thank you to all the students, parents, teachers and staff who worked hand in hand with me over the last two years to make this happen. In particular, thank you to the Thornbury High Redevelopment Group, to the School Council and to Principal Keenan. Working with you made my task easier.

Stage 1 of the School’s Masterplan has delivered a stunning gymnasium, auditorium and creative space. Now these will be complimented by state-of-the art STEAM facilities to create a truly modern learning environment.

On top of that - this upgrade will create more local jobs as construction starts! And the Minister for Education has told us that construction will commence as quickly as possible.

As we near the end of term, from my family to yours, have a safe and enjoyable holiday season. I can’t wait to see Thornbury High’s transformation underway next year.

Kind regards,

Kat Theophanous MP

State Labor Member for Northcote

P.S. This year has been tough for schools and families – together we’ve made the future brighter at Thornbury High.
