School Council News

The Good Op Shop has partnered with Castlemaine Secondary College on a major recycling project. The project is a Circular Economy Project - collecting waste, turning into a product, selling the product to keep funding the project.

We are collecting plastic lids that the students will clean and sort and get ready for recycling. The Good Op Shop is madly fundraising for the machines to cut up the plastic lids, and melt the lids down into a product. They have contributed $5,000 and the community has raised a further $3,185.

SUSTAINABILITY AT CSC from the CSC School Council

REDUCE WASTE

Most of the litter that accumulates on the school grounds comes from wrappers on the school lunches. Please be mindful of this, and keep packaging to a minimum. Parents and carers, please encourage students to bring home their waste, and pack ‘nude’ food wherever possible.

RECYCLE

We have an e-waste bin in the foyer of the administration building. This is for disposing of items like chords, keyboards, small electrical devices, mobile phones etc. We cannot accept larger items like computer monitors or TV's, we can only accept what fits through the holes in the top!

We can also accept pens and highlighters for recycling. These can be left with the reception staff and are sent off to Terracycle to be made into news pens.

WEEDS

CSC is committed to eradicating exotic Needle Grasses from the school grounds. Can people please keep the bags that you buy garden soil/compost/potting mix in from the garden centres. We can use these bags to put the weeds in to kill off any seeds before disposing of them. Again, please leave with the reception staff.
