This term we are really proud of all the MITS Alumni, as they continue to engage with their education despite the challenges that Covid has thrown at them. In Victoria, some have been going into school for specialised support, some have been working on-line from home or in boarding, and even though sport has been restricted, kicking the footy has still been possible!

Many students have had their first Covid vaccination, and will have their second in Term 4, which means that it should make quarantining easier for them at the end of the year. These holidays everyone has spent two weeks in quarantine at Howard Springs, so that they can get home for the September school holidays. All our alumni were accompanied in quarantine by MITS staff, Partner School staff or family members and were supported with in-person and online learning. Well done for your persistence, commitment and ability to keep smiling - we think you are remarkable young people!

Sam Warrior from Garden Point on the Tiwi Islands is looking forward to getting home, seeing family and excited to see his friends. Some of Sam’s favourite activities when back home include swimming, adventures in the bush and fishing. Sam is equally looking forward to returning to Melbourne in Term 4, where he lives with his host mother Emma and host brother and sister. A year 9 student at Richmond High School, Sam enjoys school, footy and boxing training, being near other MITS alumni in Richmond and living in a community that he is familiar with.

In August we farewelled Sammi Rioli, as she and Dean moved back to Darwin to live. We will miss Sammi very much in Melbourne, but are thrilled that she will still be working with MITS and supporting Alumni in the Northern Territory.

Well done to everyone on an amazing term at ABH, we have enjoyed having some fun times together through our lockdown weekends. Over the term we have enjoyed some bingo, newspaper fashion, movie nights in the ABH cinema, bike rides, walks in the local area, game nights, painting, earning dojo points for the ABH shop and to finish our time at ABH with a birthday party for Allira, Ciara and Latisha.

Congratulations to everyone for their commitment to their studies this term through online learning, it has been amazing to see how well everyone keeping pushing through the challenges and remained engaged in their learning.

We finished off the term with our young people working from home in Victoria and at Howard Springs in Darwin. It was fantastic for ABH staff to visit Latisha, Ciara and Shakira in Gippsland over the last few weeks. Well done also to the students at Howard Springs, it was nice to enjoy the warmer weather for their last few weeks of online learning and to celebrate the last birthdays of the term.
