Creative & Performing Arts

Selecting your subjects for 2024

In Term 3, students from Years 8 to 11 will be asked to select their subjects for 2024. As part of ensuring students make informed decisions about their electives, I am sending this message to inform you about the Creative and Performing Arts subjects Epping Secondary College has on offer.

The Creative and performing Arts subjects are:

Visual Arts / Art making & exhibiting (AME)

Visual Communication Design

Media

Drama / Theatre studies

Music / VET Music Performance

Students who select these subjects, or are interested but unsure are encouraged to think about the following:

1.The Arts learning area at Epping Secondary College teaches direct critical & creative thinking skills (questioning, analysing, problem solving), which are utilised in all subject areas and career paths.

2. Students who select arts subjects may choose to undertake tertiary studies in this sector after secondary school - or they may not. The skills they develop in the arts are very transferrable and will benefit students regardless of their post-secondary school endeavours. We have had students move on to study a range of courses from Fine Arts, Animation, Tattooing and Curation - to areas like Engineering, Medicine, Psychology and Business.

3. Students who undertake subjects in the arts domain are taught by teachers with industry experience and connections - so those who do wish to pursue this after school have a range of opportunities to be networked with industry professionals.

4. Apart from its academic benefits, the arts domain also strengthens students ability to self-reflect, express themselves, and to openly communicate about their thoughts and opinions. There is a strong focus on wellbeing in all subjects across the arts domain and having this creative outlet enables students to make great personal developments, as well as academic developments.

If you or your child has questions about these subject areas, please feel free to contact Ms Gallina via XUNO.
