MCG Industry Visit - Year 11 Work Related Skills

On Thursday 18th May, Ms Neri’s Work Related Skills class ventured to the Melbourne

Cricket Ground to conduct an industry visit, as part of their studies.

Students participated in the interactive ‘Game On’ experience – where they put their physical skills to the test by engaging with a range of activities including goal kicking, handballing, bowling, batting, rock climbing, speed and hand eye-coordination testing, and students had the opportunity to try other simulation experiences such as surfing, rowing and horse racing.

Students visited the Sports Museum – learning about the history of Australian Sports and

Australian sporting heroes past and present, and they had an opportunity to view the many different sporting memorabilia on display. The students finished off their day with a guided MCG tour. The tour included access to the ground, the famous MCC Long Room, change rooms, media quarters and a discussion of the different types of careers and industries connected to the MCG – including the sports, entertainment and hospitality industry.

Students also discovered the MCG provides employment opportunities in a vast range of occupations including statisticians and digital specialists from Champion Data who provide the live statistics to the senior coaching teams on ‘game day’, to the turf management crew who also manage the state-of-the art Grow Lighting (used from April to September) to the library staff who run the MCC library – which houses some of the oldest historical sources on Australian sporting history!

Students then capped off their day with a spot of lunch and shopping at Melbourne Central. This group of students represented the college with pride as they actively demonstrated the college values during this excursion.
