Monday the 2nd of December will be a Pupil Free Day
As we reach the culmination of the 2019 school year, so much is going on not only in the clean up of this year but also beginning to plan for the next school year.
Our Year 5/6 children arrived back from their School Camp to Sovereign Hill Ballarat last Wednesday. Although the mornings were at the balmy Ballarat best, we were blessed with gorgeous sunny warm afternoons. Congratulations and thank you to the staff who attended and made camp possible. It is a huge responsibility to take children away from home in 2019, but as a school we feel that these kinds of experiences are so crucial to preparing the children for secondary school, making them more independent and providing them with an experience outside the classroom environment. Thank you to Mrs George who organised this year’s school camp and being Camp Commandant. . The children really loved this great learning experience about Australia’s history.
Then it was onto our official School Oval Opening on Thursday afternoon where State Member for Eltham, Vicki Ward attended to cut the ribbon and open our $200,000 Pick My Project School oval. On this occasion the 39 degree weather and wind was not so co-operative. So we imagined we were down on the brand new oval, thanked Kirsty Reedy and Danetsa Konsky who were the main Parents Association drivers of the project, and then with the help of Tom and Lexie in cutting the ribbon, we officially opened this great new facility at our school. Such a wonderful legacy that will entertain children in the many, many years to come.
A Letter from Danetsa and Kirsty,
We wanted to express our gratitude to Vicki Ward and the Victorian Government for giving us this amazing opportunity to build our brand new oval. It simply would not have been possible without this generous grant opportunity.
Most importantly we wanted to thank out entire school, parish and local Monty community for getting behind our project and voting. We were so surprised when we made it through the judging panel to be nominated and to then find out we won was simply a dream come true for SFX.
We remember fondly the email that came through in the school holidays and quickly picking up the phone to call Mr Workman and Mr Boyhan and tell them the good news! We were all speechless and could not believe how lucky we were.
So to finish the message of today if you cannot tell already it is one of thanks. Thanks to the School Leadership team along with Fr Terry for supporting the idea many moons ago, thank you to our School Advisory Council for putting so much work into getting the application off the ground, thank you to our dream team of Deborah Black, Jacqui Johnson and Kate Harford for putting their hands up to come up with ways to help spread the word, thanks to the mums, dads and students that came in early at drop off time with signs and decorations to remind people to vote.
We have such a special community here at SFX and this is the perfect example of what happens when we all work together. So lets put our hands together and give a big round of applause to say thanks.
Danetsa and Kirsty
We indeed have a very brave child at our school who not only stood in front of the school, but agreed to have his head shaved as part of the World’s Greatest Shave. Marco Dalla Riva, our fantastic ambassador of fundraising to find a cure for cancer, spoke so passionately about when he was one year of age and his mum was diagnosed with cancer. There were so many tears listening to Marco speak, the effect on his family, the effect on him even today with his mum in remission for the past 9 years.
We were able to get the package deal on this occasion as Marco’s dad also decided to shave his head if we were able to collect another $300, he too would shave his head. An amount that was raised in a matter of minutes. If you were one of the families that offered $50.00 to David Dalla Riva shaving his head, please use the link below to donate.
