‘Walk to School’ Wrap Up

Thank you once again to our students, parents and teachers for the beautiful support of our Walk to School program in October. We have had a lot of fun turning it up a notch with new competitions and activities to keep children and families motivated to get out and walk more. Throughout the month, students added to their tally each day, rewarded by stickers, personal rivalries and friendly classroom competitions. In the run to the final finish line, we rewarded two classes for their efforts. In second place overall, awarded the Silver Slipper Award, with the highest percentage of walkers for the entire month, was 3TH! Congratulations on your repeat victory. And finishing in top spot overall, across the entire school, awarded with the Golden Sneaker Award, was 5FG! Congratulations on stepping it up in the senior school. Both classes will retain their awards until the walks begin again in 2020.

‘Walk to School’ Promotional Video at SFX ~ Monday 25th November

We are back at it ONE MORE TIME!  This Monday we will be ‘reenacting’ the Morning Laps Club program organised for the ‘Walk to School’ promotion in October as SFX has been chosen as an exemplary school for some of the interesting and exciting activities we ran to promote walking to school. The footage and photos collected will be used to produce a professional promotional video for the ‘Walk to School’ event in 2020.

Please send your child to school in their sport uniform if they would like to participate by walking or running laps around the oval. Likewise, if you are keen to show parent support for this event, you are welcome to join us on the oval toddlers prams and all at 8:40 am. Great way to start your day!

SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA (SSV) Academic & Sporting

Achievement Medal

Each year School Sport Victoria put a call out to Victorian primary schools to consider Year Six students who, upon finishing their primary school career, have consistently modelled high standards of both academic and sporting achievement. The nomination dictates that any candidate must be exemplary in both areas. It is not given at every school, nor is it given each year at SFX, and every nomination is reviewed by SSV.

At our special assembly yesterday, our school community was very pleased to present Cameron Ellis with this medal. Cameron has been exceptional throughout his primary school career. This year he has been particularly strong academically, achieving high standards across the board. He always asks for extra work to extend his knowledge and skills further.

Athletics has been Cameron’s biggest area of success. This year he not only made the Victorian State Athletics Team, competing at Nationals in the 1500m event, he was also the State Champion for Cross Country in the 12/13 year age category, again competing at Nationals. When representing the school in Interschool Sports, he always shows great sportsmanship by encouraging not only his own teammates, but also his opponents.

Cameron has been an incredible role model here at SFX, a leader, and at the same time demonstrated our school values of responsible, respectful, safe and resilient. He is kind and thoughtful, determined and humble. We wish Cameron every success in his future endeavours beyond St Francis Xavier. Congratulations and good luck!

MILO T20 Blast Cricket Carnival

What a BLAST! And what a beautiful day for it too! Today, all of our Year Three and Year Four students participated in the MILO T20 Blast Cricket Carnival at Eltham Lower Park. In what has been the biggest carnival ever for Cricket Victoria organisers, more than 40 teams from the Montmorency and Eltham school districts competed in modified cricket matches over the day. The initiative is purely for fun and participation as an extension and application of the cricket skills that the 3/4 level have been focusing on in H&PE.

Big thanks to Cricket Victoria for organising and the Eltham sports district for hosting, beginners and experienced players - we all had a ball! Thank you also to our parent volunteers who made this possible for the students to attend. Well done to all of our wonderful, resilient students!

SFX Swimming Team Trials

Tuesday 10th December @ Northcote Aquatic Centre

Quickly approaching are the SFX Swimming Team Trials. This is an opportunity for any capable swimming athletes to trial for the school team, which competes at the district carnival in early 2020. These trials are open to all students in Year Two - Year Five who are already proficient squad swimmers. There are further details provided to all Year Two - Five parents via Care Monkey. Consider your child’s level of ability and willingness to participate and respond to accept the invitation to trial or decline. This is also a wonderful opportunity for parents to support the school sport program by volunteering to help at this event. If there are any further questions, please feel free to contact Mrs Hunter, Sport Coordinator.
