Classroom Clippings

CLASSROOM CLIPPING

On the 8th and 9th of November the Year 3 and 4 students attended Kinglake Forest Adventure Camp. Working in small groups the students were introduced to a variety of outdoor activities such as Ziplining, Free Fall, Giant Seesaw and Swing Bridge.  As individuals challenged themselves to complete the difficult activities they were encouraged and supported by members of their group. One highlight was a forest walk to visit a wombat hole and wallaby centre. We were very lucky with the weather on Thursday as the rain held off to allow all students to complete the outdoor activities. Upon returning to school the Year 3 students completed a short written snapshot of their favourite activity. Please find some examples of this work below.

Camp snapshot

My heart was pounding in my chest. I had just watched my friend Madeline go and now it was my turn. I heard my friends cries of encouragement, I felt my sweaty hands grip the handles on the zipline so hard my knuckles turned white. I looked down at my feet and stepped off the platform.

I felt my stomach do a backflip. I looked around at how high I was. I could feel my grip loosen a bit on the handle. The wind rushed past my ears as I barreled toward the end. This must be what it feels like to fly I thought.  I heard my shout of happiness and BAM it was over. I was unharnessed and I climbed down the ladder. My whole body was shaking but I was happy because I knew I conquered my fear of heights.

Snapshot Writing Of Camp

I was standing on top of the Free Fall tower. I was really nervous and I was shivering. I kept telling myself “its okay Matthew you can do it” I just wanted to leap but my feet wouldn't let me.

I looked down it was so far down I was afraid I would never get down.

I couldn't think about positive things just negative things like all of my gear would fall off and I could even die.

I tried not to look down because when I looked down I got really scared so I tried to look up but that made me even more scared so I looked straight, forward into the trees I saw a rosella in the trees I was a bit more calm now but I was still nervous. I looked down again and I didnt get as scared as the first time I looked down. I was nervous but I knew I could do it.

CAMP - Free Fall

It was my turn I got on my gear and started to climb it was 8 meters high and I felt a bit worried. I still had a go.

As I was climbing I felt the chilly breeze of the wind blowing against me. There was a great view of trees swaying, birds singing and a bit of sun which made it a little warm to.

I tried not to look down but it was so tempting and then I did it looked so high up I then began to worry.

I was now half way there and the harness was pulling me up then I decided to climb back down. It was  still fun and I enjoyed it!

Camp snapshot Zip line

The moment I stepped of the Zip line platform I felt like I was flying. When I was about one quarter in I took my hands off. At the start I felt very nervous, but excited too.

When I got to the ground Steve told me to put my harness into the basket below  the Zipline. After I put my harness in the basket I watched my friend Leah have her turn. She took her hands of half way through. It was a lot of fun, it was my favourite part of camp.

THE  FREE FALL!

“Oliver, you’re going next!” Our instructor said. I climbed up the ladder and looked down. It felt like I was 100 metres in the air already! But in reality, the Jump was only 8 metres high! I climbed up some more and found the platform. I felt so scared, that I was about to go back down and not do it! But I went onto the platform and jumped off. I went into a superman position and said “Suuuuupppppeeeerrrrrmmmmmaaaaannnnnn!” in a really deep voice. Some people were laughing and clapping, and some were cheering. But I just loved the experience!!

Camp

It was my turn, my heart was racing really fast. I got attached to the clip and soon I was flying through the air, leaving my friend on the platform. It was an awesome feeling!

I was really scared when I came to the end. I thought ‘what a great experience!

At the end I saw and heard my friend cheering for

me.
