Five Fun Facts!

It’s a Foundation Teacher Feature!

'Five Fun Facts' showcases different FPS staff – who provide answers to five questions, giving the reader a glimpse into who they are, what drives them, and what they love! It's a light-hearted way to connect with the people of FPS beyond the school walls.

Meet Kelly

Kelly, with her ready smile and zest for all things creative and crafty, is in her second year at FPS.

What are your hobbies?

I play soccer for Brunswick Women's team, practice and teach yoga, LOVE to read and dabble in arts and crafts. Sometimes I draw, other times I make jewellery or pottery – lately I've taken up embroidery.

What do you think everyone should do at least once in their lifetime and why?

Skydive! Well because... why not??

Where would you like to travel next and why?

Africa. My partner is from South Africa and I am dying to go on a safari!

Chum
Chum

Are you a cat or a dog person?

I am 100% a dog person. I have a dog named Chum. He is 45 kilos and full of love 🙂

Great accent – where are you from?

I am originally from Olean, New York – a small town in Western New York state. It is right on the border of Canada. I moved over seven years ago. I am proud to say that I am now an Australian resident!

Where was my favourite trip?

Taiwan. It was the first country I travelled to overseas. I taught there for two years and would never have ended up in Australia if I hadn't taught there first. It's a beautiful country!

Meet Zoe

Zoe has a ready laugh and loves a good book. Next time you see Zoe, ask her to bust out some dance moves!

Do you have a pet?

I have two ginger kittens that I adopted last year! They love to cuddle up to each other and climb their cat tree.

What’s the best way to start the day?

I love to start my day by exercising and then eating breakfast and reading a book. This really relaxes me and sets me up for the day ahead.

What's one thing that can instantly make your day better?

Chatting with friends!

What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?

I can’t resist a big scoop of cookies and cream.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I could eat pasta every day of the week!

Meet Cathy

With her endless patience and razor sharp humour, Cathy is a cornerstone of the Foundation program, having been at FPS 12 years.

Monty
Monty

Do you have a pet?

Yes! Meet Monty, he is almost 11 years old and a pug-shitzu cross. My children always say that he is my favourite child... don't tell anyone – he is!

Do you have a favourite quote?

Yes I do. It's a long one and sometimes it's hard to remember when you are in the thick of parenting.

“Your children are not your children.
They are sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you.
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you."
Kahlil Gibran

What's your morning routine?

Every morning without fail – rain, hail or shine – Monty and I go for a walk to our local newsagency. Monty goes behind the counter to have a play and a cuddle with the 'early morning man'. Then we go to visit the bakery next door. Of course, Monty has to sit dejectedly outside (he does sad very well, as that type of dog does). His patience is rewarded by the baker with a little treat of bacon scraps from the cheese and bacon rolls!

What do you do in your spare time?

I love reading! I read every day, usually fiction. I've been in a book club with the same group of people for more than 25 years. So, I get to enjoy reading other people's choices as well. Recently I read 'Apeirogon', by Colum McCann, an extraordinary book that I recommend everyone read.

What's your favourite ice-cream flavour?

Hands down, salted caramel! Can we please go to the Nova right now... theirs is really good.
