Assistant Principal's Report

Harmony Week

A few weeks ago Fairfield Primary School celebrated Harmony Week. Students acknowledged Harmony Week in a variety of ways such as participating in learning tasks around diversity, joining in lunchtime activities, and wearing orange on Harmony Day. Year 6 students, along with Emily, planned, organised and ran multiple mixed-age activities during lunch that were tremendously popular. As you can see by the photos below, students had a wonderful time joining in the celebrations.

Student Voice Team

Last week the Student Voice Team met for the final time this term. Students shared their class’s ideas and suggestions on how to make Fairfield Primary School a better place. I was able to share with the team some actions that had occurred from their last meeting.

One suggestion that is being actioned is ‘Respect Shout Outs’. Student Voice Team members will work with the teacher to recognise respectful behaviours during class time. Student Voice Team members will also pass on respectful behaviours they notice on the yard to their teacher, who can acknowledge this with the class.  Another suggestion from the team was to create and display ‘Respect’ posters – these will be going up around the school early next term as well, to remind students how to show respect in different areas of the school.

Some new ideas and suggestions that came from last week’s meeting were to resurface the old netball court area, increase the length of camps (and introduce a Year 3 camp) and have toys to play with in the sandpit. You can read the minutes from last week’s meeting below.

Holidays

As we fast approach the term break I would like to wish you all a happy and safe holiday. This time last year we were in the beginning of our first lockdown and I know I can speak for us all when I say how grateful I am that these Easter holidays will look very different to last year! Enjoy your time with family and friends and I look forward to seeing everyone back at school in April.
