School Council Report

School Councillors 2021– 22

The first School Council meeting, with our new body of councillors, was held on 22 March. This was our first in-person meeting in over a year – it was wonderful to meet face-to-face again.

Council farewelled outgoing councillors Nathan Smeaton (Treasurer) and Prue Middleton (staff representative) for their hard work and contributions to the council. New councillors Allison O’Connell, Reagan Richards and Cara Rodrigues (parent representatives) and Olivia Li (staff representative) were welcomed.

The following council office bearers were elected:

  • Secretary: Sarah Glass
  • Treasurer: Louise Currie

Councillors are required to serve on one of the four school committees - see below. Please note: The Environmental Sustainability Working Group is a sub-committee of the Buildings and Grounds Committee.

Excellent School Crossing Decision

While the FPS School Council was meeting, the Darebin Council also met. One of Darebin Council’s agenda items was the decision regarding the crossing between the Langridge Street main campus and the Wingrove campus. The school had strongly requested that Darebin Council consider the safely needs of the area – which had changed with the opening of the new campus. This request has been strongly supported by the FPS community, including a petition by parents to Darebin Council.

School Council paused its meeting to listen to the debate and decision from Darebin Council. As the vote came in to approve the school’s request, there was a spontaneous round of applause from all councillors!

The school is now working with Darebin Council to find out what the next steps are in implementing this decision.
