Junior Science Olympiad Exams

In August, while on remote learning, ten students from across the three Greater Shepparton SC campuses participated in the Junior Science Olympiad Exam. The exam was for students from Year 7 to Year 10 and was based on general science content (biology, chemistry and physics) and assumes students have a good knowledge of the Australian Curriculum – Science up to a Year 10 level. Some questions in the exam also involve higher-level content (such as might be encountered by an extended Year 10 student).

We are proud of the efforts and achievements of Mahdi Ghorbani, Rae-Nee Roberts, Nikita Reddrop , Yasmine Milne, Zaid Parafio, Kloe Laws, Rachel Angeline, Rowan Farren, Matthew Hanns, and Katie Kenttala who participated in the exam.

In particular, we would like to acknowledge the efforts of Matthew Hanns (Year 8) who achieved a Distinction certificate ranking him in the top 30% of 2400 participants; and also in the top 50 Year 8 students. Matthew has subsequently been invited to participate in a the Science Olympiad training squad hosted by Australian Science Innovations.

We are looking forward to having continued student participation in the Science Olympiads in 2021.
