English Speaking Union Competition

Over the past week, our Years 7 to 10 competitors for the English Speaking Union

participated in their heats.  All students spoke incredibly well, and we are so proud of the efforts they put into this competition.  Most of these students had been attending weekly workshops with one of our English and Drama teachers, Ms Maria Conway, who has industry experience and prepared them for success.  Thank you, Ms Conway!

For Imogen, Amaeh, Samira, and Heidi in our Intermediate division, great feedback was received on their pace, movement on the stage, and their ability to create cyclical speeches that weaved in imagery and metaphor to prove their point.  Congratulations to Amaeh who has made it through to the Intermediate Grand Final.

Metben and Millicent were our trailblazers in the Junior division, and they really stepped it up!  Both students performed eloquently - their weeks of practice and hard work paid off, with both of them making it through to the Junior Grand Final.

Good luck to Sienna who will be competing in the Senior division in a few weeks’ time. These students should be commended on their dedication, competence, and willingness to improve!

Theatre Sports Competition

This week, our Junior Theatre Sports team participated in the Youth Theatre Sports Competition.  The team had been dedicated in the weeks leading up to the event, with costumes created, extra training sessions taking place, and workshops attended.

While they did not make it through to the Grand Final, they had a great time working with each other, improvising scenes and having a laugh.  Mount Alvernia commends them on their dedication to our Co-Curricular space! Thank you to Sienna, Charley, Daphne, Ella, Millicent, Charlotte, Alyssa, and Chelsea for representing us so well!

Our Theatre Sports Troupe meets every Wednesday in our Drama room for lunchtimes of fun improvisations led by our Year 12 Drama Captains Xanthe Browning and Angela Franke.  Congratulations, MtA M&M’s.

Art Club introduces the Mount Alvernia Archibald Portrait Prize…

The next Art Club project has arrived and, over the next few weeks, we will be working on the Mount Alvernia Archibald Portrait Prize.  Students are invited to create and enter a portrait, of any medium, into the competitions.  Prizes up for grabs!
