For students who thrive with a practical, hands-on style of learning, the VET Faculty at Mt A offers so many choices.  Beginning in Year 10 with offerings in Hospitality, Sport & Recreation, and Business (workplace skills), students can learn real-life skills that take them beyond the classroom and into the world of work.

In Years 11 and 12, students can elect to take courses on-campus that range from Certificate II through Diploma level, or go out one day per week to TAFE or Mater Education, or to a school-based traineeship or apprenticeship with an employer, to fast-track their journey on their chosen pathway.  All VET courses from Certificate III level and above enable a student to obtain a selection rank which can be used an alternative to the ATAR as a university entry method.*

*each university assigns selection ranks individually, and not all accept VET qualifications as an entry method for school leavers.

The VET faculty also regularly conducts incursions and excursions.  On Thursday, 4 May I accompanied three aspiring tradeswomen to a National Association of Women in Construction speed careering event.  Students heard from speakers representing a number of industries, including automotive, construction, and refrigeration.  Inspired by women of all ages who had succeeded in their fields, our Mt A students picked up tips on how to get started and advance in their trade of their choice.  With skills shortages across the trades and the potential to earn over $100,000 per annum after completing an apprenticeship, trade careers are an exciting option!
