Grade 5

Reading
We have started reading our new class text Black Cockatoo, and students are already showing great curiosity about the story. We are focusing on building comprehension skills by making predictions and discussing key themes. Students have been engaging in thoughtful conversations about characters and their perspectives. It’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm as we dive deeper into the text.
Writing
In Writing, we have been working on developing compound and complex sentences. Students are learning how to effectively use conjunctions to expand their ideas and improve the flow of their writing. We have been practising combining simple sentences to create more detailed and interesting pieces. This work is helping students become more confident and expressive writers.
Maths
In Maths, we have been deep diving into fraction walls to build a strong understanding of fractions. Students have explored improper fractions and how they relate to mixed numbers. We have also been comparing and ordering fractions using a range of strategies. It has been great to see students developing their confidence and accuracy with these concepts.
Welcome Back
We are pumped to have all students back for Week 2 and ready for a big term ahead. There has been a great energy in the classroom as students settle back into routines. We are especially excited as school camp is just around the corner next week. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic experience for everyone involved!
