Grade 4

Welcome Back
We are excited to welcome all students back for Term 2 and ready for a big term ahead. There has been a fantastic energy in the classroom as students settle back into their routines. We’re especially looking forward to school camp this term. It’s set to be a memorable and enjoyable experience for all. Please ensure you have given consent on Campus for your child to be able to attend camp.
Reading
We’ve begun reading our new class text Uncle Xbox, and students are already showing strong curiosity about the storyline. Our focus has been on strengthening comprehension skills through prediction-making and exploring key themes. Students have engaged in thoughtful discussions about the characters and their viewpoints. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm grow as we delve deeper into the text.
Writing
In Writing, students have been working on expanding their sentences by adding extra details—such as who is involved, when and where something happens, and why it occurs. They’ve also been learning to use adjectives before nouns to make their writing more vivid and interesting.
Maths
In Maths, we have been deep diving into decimals, learning about tenths and hundredths. Students have been linking this knowledge to their understanding of fractions and working with number lines and decimal representations. It has been great to see their confidence and accuracy grow with these concepts.
Kids ROAR
The students took part in the KidsROAR program, which focused on building Protective Behaviours in a supportive and age‑appropriate way. The session reinforced two key messages: that everyone has the right to feel safe at all times, and that children can talk to a trusted adult about anything.
During the program, students learned to:
- Recognise their feelings, warning signs, safe and unsafe situations, and different types of secrets
- Own their body and understand that it belongs to them
- Assert themselves by using the ‘No, Go, Tell’ strategy
- Report their concerns to trusted adults and keep speaking up until they feel heard
It was a valuable session that helped students build confidence and develop important personal safety skills.
