SUSTAINABILITY

Be a Food Waste Warrior
Small Bites, Big Impact!
Did you know that about one-third of all food produced in the world goes to waste? When we throw away food, we also waste the water, energy, and hard work it took to grow it. Plus, food rotting in landfills creates methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.
The good news? Kids have the power to change this! By making small changes at school and at home, you can become a certified Food Waste Warrior.
Action Ideas for School
- Pack Smart: Take only what you know you will eat. Use reusable containers to keep leftovers fresh.
- Compost Your Scraps: Put fruit peels, cores, and vegetable scraps into the school compost bin instead of the bin.
- Take home rubbish: if you have any rubbish, tuck it back in your lunchbox so you can recycle properly at home. We would love to become a waste free school.
Action Ideas at Home
- Plan with Parents: Help write the weekly grocery list so your family only buys what they need.
- Love Your Leftovers: Turn last night's dinner into today's delicious lunch.
- Store Food Properly: Keep berries in the fridge and bananas on the counter so they last longer.
- Feed the Garden: Start a home compost pile or worm farm to turn food scraps into rich soil for plants.
- Be a Waste Monitor at home: Volunteer to help families sort their recycling and food waste correctly at lunchtime.
