Hands on Learning (HoL) 

It has been a busy and exciting time in our HOL program, with lots of opportunities for hands-on learning, creativity and building new skills.

Our students have been working hard on their focus plans, taking responsibility for their learning and working towards their individual goals. It has been wonderful to see students developing their independence, staying motivated and reflecting on their progress.

Outside, we have been getting our hands dirty while building our dry river bed. This project has encouraged plenty of teamwork, problem-solving and creative thinking as students worked together to plan, build and improve our outdoor space.

The rainy days haven't stopped the learning and fun! When we couldn't get outside, we enjoyed some friendly competition with a variety of board games. These activities provided a great opportunity to practise communication, strategy, patience and sportsmanship.

We have also started an exciting nail and string art project. Students have been carefully planning their designs and will get to hammering nails and creating colourful patterns with string. This project is developing fine motor skills, concentration, creativity and perseverance.

One of the highlights has been our hands-on cooking experiences. Students have been preparing their own lunches, including toasties, pasta and nachos. As well as enjoying some delicious food, they have been learning practical skills such as following instructions, measuring, using kitchen equipment safely, working together and cleaning up afterwards.

It has been fantastic to see our students learning through doing, making, creating and collaborating. These experiences are helping them build confidence, independence and practical skills that they can carry with them both inside and outside the classroom.
