Congratulations to Maurice Bryant (9 Jenkin) who has claimed back-to-back Victorian State Championships in Enduro mountain biking, winning the U17 title at this year's championships held in Bright.

Having taken out the U15 title in 2025, Maurice has cemented himself as one of Victoria's most exciting young riders in the discipline.

Girton's Equestrian team in the saddle at Elmore

Earlier this month, Girton hosted the Horseland Dressage and Showjumping Interschools Championship in Elmore. Across two days, primary and secondary students competed in a range of dressage and showjumping events. We welcomed attendees from all over Victoria including Geelong Grammar, Toorak College, Braemar College, Marist College, Victory College and many others. The event was largely organised by parent volunteers, with the invaluable support from the Girton staff.

Despite delays caused by wild weather and the occasional horse truck becoming stuck in the mud, the event ran smoothly overall. There were outstanding performances throughout the weekend, with our Girton Equestrian members achieving success in both dressage and showjumping. Congratulations to our competitors Harriet Williams, Leah Pickering, Annika Hall and Alexis Weekly. Congratulations to Braemar College for their success in taking out the overall championship.

Thank you to the Girton Equestrian members, including the dedicated students and parents. Jody Pickering puts in an immense amount of effort into the event each year. Hilary Hall, Megan Walmsley, Alisha Weekly and Huw Williams supported the team with set up, running the raffle, pack down and everything in between.

Thank you to the Girton staff who contributed their time, knowledge and energy into helping bring this event to life.

Thank you to Mr Don Thompson for his time and valuable advice during the event. Additionally, thank you to Ms Nic James for her advice and Mr Clint Whitsed for filling in for a dressage pencilling session. Big thanks also to Mr Mark Beever for capturing our competitors on camera.

Many hands make light work and volunteers are essential to the success of any activity. Our event provides students in Central Victoria and beyond an opportunity to compete and represent their schools in a sport they love. On behalf of the Girton Equestrian team, we are exceptionally lucky to continue to be able to contribute to the equestrian interschools community.
