Student Futures

From the Head of VCE & Student Futures
As we move further into the term, our VCE students continue to engage in a range of valuable career and pathway exploration opportunities designed to broaden their understanding of future study and employment options. These experiences provide students with important insights into potential career pathways and help them make informed decisions about their futures.
This week, selected students attended the AACRM Medical Clinical Immersion Day at Bendigo Tech School, delivered in collaboration with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and Goldfields LLEN. The Bendigo Tech School was transformed into a bustling mini medical precinct, with 45 students from five local schools participating in a range of hands-on workshops that showcased life on the frontline of healthcare.
Throughout the day, students rotated through practical sessions where they learned a variety of medical skills used daily by clinicians, including taking blood pressure, wrapping slings and splints, testing reflexes, using ultrasound tools, and undertaking eye and ear examinations. A highlight of the day was the hands-on plastering workshop, which was both educational and highly enjoyable for all involved.
Students also had the opportunity to explore medical and health science study pathways through presentations from La Trobe University and Monash University. Current clinicians and medical students shared valuable insights into regional and rural medical careers, providing students with authentic perspectives on working in the healthcare industry.
Recently, Girton also welcomed representatives from the Australian Defence Force, who delivered informative sessions to Year 11s and interested students from Years 9 and 10 outlining the career pathways available within the ADF. Students gained insight into entry pathways, university sponsorships, apprenticeships, training opportunities, and life within the Defence Force. The sessions highlighted opportunities across a broad range of fields including engineering, health sciences, trades, aviation, technology, and leadership, and provided students with valuable information to consider as they explore future career directions.
Finally, as we approach exam week, I would like to wish all students the very best in their preparation and assessments. Exams are an opportunity for students to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the semester. I encourage all students to maintain a balanced routine, seek support when needed, and approach the week with confidence. We are proud of the commitment and resilience our students continue to show and wish them every success.
Mr Langley, Mr Wiese and Mrs Picot

General Achievement Test
The General Achievement Test (GAT) will be held on the 16 June 26. The GAT is a pen-and-paper test of general knowledge and skills taken by students in the course of completing their senior secondary studies.
The GAT plays an important role in the quality assurance of VCE assessments and also provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate they meet the Victorian Literacy and Numeracy Standards expected at a senior secondary level. No special study is needed. Past study of subjects like English, Mathematics, Science and History prepares students for the GAT by building their general knowledge and skills in writing, numeracy and reasoning.
This year, the GAT will be held in the Girton Gym and the Naunton Family Building. Further information regarding timings, room allocations, and expectations for the day will be sent via email closer to the date.
