STATE BOWLS

Tuesday the 6th of May 2025, marked a proud and historic moment for Vermont Secondary College as both our Junior and Senior Lawn Bowls teams took to the Club Sunbury greens at the SSV State Finals.

Our Junior team — Elijah C (Year 8), Eric O, Archie C, and Jake H (Year 9) displayed exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the competition. They went undefeated in their preliminary games, finishing at the top of their section with confidence and determination. Despite their strong run, they were defeated in a tightly contested semi-final. Their performance was nothing short of outstanding and sets a strong foundation for future success.

Our Senior team — Jack H (Year 11), Tom L, Max S, and Lucas H (Year 12) brought years of dedication and experience to the big stage. Having been apart of the bowls team since its inception in 2021, their commitment and growth over time culminated in a truly remarkable achievement. The team navigated their section with composure and skill, entering the semi-finals full of belief. They continued their momentum into the finals, where they delivered an exceptional performance to secure Vermont Secondary College’s first-ever State Title in Lawn Bowls

A huge congratulations to Max, Lucas, Tom, and Jack — your hard work, resilience, and sportsmanship have made the entire school community incredibly proud.

Intermediate Boys Tennis

In the morning, we set out for an amazing day of tennis. We reached Ringwood central tennis club to play the first school, Rowville Sports Academy. We were the clear underdogs, but we didn't care. Jacob held his ground winning 4-1 against the number one player. Vivaan and Henry also stayed solid which brought the sets to 3-1. All we had to do was to get 3 games in doubles, so we did. It was an amazing performance from us, and we blitzed through the rest of the schools. But here came the finals against Balwyn who has beaten us before. Henry and Jaden won the doubles comfortably and Vivaan and Jacob put up a really good fight. All we had to do was to win 3 matches in singles. Jaden won comfortably same as Vivaan. But Henry put up a good fight and unfortunately lost, giving us 2nd place in the regions. It was a good day overall, but it could've been better.

SENIOR ROUND ROBIN

Boys/Mixed Soccer

The team had a great day representing Vermont. They started strong with a two-goal win over Mount Waverley, the strong emphasis on teamwork being the difference between the two teams. Game two the boys were too strong again and came away with a convincing win. Unfortunately, the team ran out of legs and narrowly missed out on progressing to the next round. Big thank you to the boys and special thanks to Finn for coaching on the day.

Netball

Senior girls' netball had a fantastic day out. Playing against Glen Waverley, Mt Waverley and Highvale, both the A and B teams had convincing wins in all pool games. The depth and flexibility for both teams enabled great combinations to be played across the court all day.

Both teams were successful in winning the final, A team winning 51- 25 against Highvale and the B team winning 45-8 also against Highvale. Well done to all players, thank you to Hailey Ferris for coaching the B team on the day. Good luck to the A team when they play at the Region competition in August.

Badminton

Amy, Chloe, Andrea, Hannah and Katie had a lot of fun on the day competing against three schools and winning their round against Highvale in the last round but losing their first two rounds.

Kyle, Joseph, Jeven, Jay Sern, Vincent and Maile headed our A team for the senior boy's badminton team. They played with spirit all day and put in their best efforts against strong competition. They won most of their games against Highvale winning that round.

Wilson, Ryan, Ethan, Jethro, Jayden and Wekin made up our B team for the senior boys. The boys had a great time playing against the competition and had a convincing set of wins against Highvale in the last round. Unfortunately, the other two rounds were not so successful for our three teams, leaving us in third for the day.

EMR FINALS

Senior Boys Baseball

Mr Malpeli and Mrs Callegaro were amazed at the efforts of the Senior boys Baseball team at Eastern finals last Tuesday 6th of May.

The team had momentum from the previous round that saw them win both games and a finals game against East Doncaster secondary college on the day. This truley was a team effort led by some outstanding pitching efforts by James G and Nisith A, even Daniel G gave it a go! In the Final game Harry G gave the team some much needed scoreless innings to allow the team to add to the lead, in the end the difference in the close 3-2 win was James G’s inside the park home run! The next step for the senior boys baseball team is state finals on Tuesday 20th May, the team are ready to go and represent VSC!
