🧪 SciTech Update – Week 9
It is hard to believe we are already approaching the end of our SciTech projects! Over the past few weeks, our students have continued to develop their Minecraft Museums and Zoos, and we are now entering the exciting final stages.
What began as research, planning and ideas has gradually transformed into detailed virtual worlds. Students are now putting the finishing touches on their creations, checking their work and preparing to share their learning with their peers.
🦖 Years 3 & 4 – The Museum Is Almost Ready!
Our Year 3 and 4 students are putting the final touches on their Museum of Natural History in Minecraft Education.
Students have been busy completing their exhibitions, adding information and making sure their museums effectively communicate what they have learned about dinosaurs and other once-living organisms.
They are now looking at their museums through the eyes of a visitor — asking questions such as: Is our information clear? Is our exhibition interesting? Can visitors easily explore our museum?
The students are particularly excited about the opportunity to show their classmates around their museums and explain the thinking behind their designs.
🌍 Years 5 & 6 – Our Zoos Are Nearly Open!
Our Year 5 and 6 students are also putting the finishing touches on their 21st-century zoos.
After weeks of researching animals, biomes and habitat requirements, students have created some incredibly diverse and imaginative environments. They have had to consider animal welfare, shelter, food, climate, space and enrichment while also thinking about how visitors will experience their zoo.
The final stage is now about refining their designs, adding those special details and making sure their habitats demonstrate what they have learned.
There is a real sense of anticipation as students prepare to open their virtual zoo doors and share their creations with their peers!
🧠 Sharing Our Learning
One of the most valuable parts of these projects is not simply building the museums and zoos — it is being able to explain, justify and share the learning behind them.
Students have made countless decisions throughout the projects. They have solved problems, changed their designs, worked with others and persevered when things didn't go according to plan.
Now they get the chance to become the experts and share their thinking with others.
⭐ From Ideas to Virtual Worlds
It has been wonderful watching students' original ideas develop into fully realised virtual environments. These projects have brought together Science, Technology, creativity, collaboration and problem-solving in a way that has allowed students to take real ownership of their learning.
We are looking forward to seeing the pride on students' faces as they share their museums and zoos with their peers over the coming weeks.
