Junior School

你 好 (ni hao) Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 families,

In English, the Year 2 students have begun our new text study of Definitely No Ducks! Students are exploring the characters and thinking deeply about their personalities, feelings and actions throughout the story. We have been discussing what makes a good friend and what friendship looks like in our everyday lives, as per one of the themes that runs throughout the text. Through class discussions and activities, students are considering the importance of kindness, honesty, inclusion and helping others.

In Maths, students have been investigating additive and repetitive patterns, learning to identify the rule that a pattern follows. We have explored how patterns can increase and decrease, and use repeated addition and multiplication to represent these rules. Students are developing their ability to recognise number patterns, explain their thinking and use mathematical language to describe how a pattern changes.

During Guided Inquiry, the Year 2s have been exploring what makes a community healthy, safe, happy and helpful. We have been discussing the different people, places and services that contribute to a thriving community and how we can play a role in making our own community a positive place for everyone. Students have also been investigating the different signs we might see in our community, considering what these signs communicate and how they help people stay safe, find their way and understand the rules of shared spaces.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Melinda (Miss Emmett) & Ash (Foundation), Beth, Cassie & Suzie (Year 1), Shaye, Emma & Chelsea (Year 2)
