Term 3 Highlights 2026
During last term, the Wattle children continued showing a strong interest in mask making and creative experiences. It has been wonderful to see how their skills and confidence have grown over time. Children who initially required significant support are now becoming increasingly independent in planning, creating and completing their own masks.
Through mask making, children make choices about materials, colours, shapes and designs while strengthening fine-motor skills, creativity, imagination and problem-solving. They are also learning to follow a process, persevere through challenges and take pride in their creations.
We have also noticed a growing interest in writing, particularly recognising and writing names. This interest has been supported through a range of play-based experiences, including letter threading, magnetic letters, name labels, and drawing and mark-making activities.
These experiences help children become familiar with letters, understand that print carries meaning, and develop confidence as emerging writers. We follow each child's individual stage of development, with some exploring letter shapes while others are forming recognisable letters or confidently writing their names.
Most importantly, we want children to develop a positive relationship with writing and see themselves as capable communicators.
Dramatic play has remained a much-loved part of our Wattle program. Throughout the term, our spaces transformed into a supermarket, aeroplane, restaurant and home corner, inspiring a range of imaginative experiences.
As children take on different roles, they practise language, negotiation, problem-solving and collaboration. We have seen them explore relationships, recreate everyday experiences and build increasingly complex storylines. A simple supermarket game can evolve into a shared scenario involving shopping, cooking, serving customers and caring for family members.
These experiences support communication, social skills, creativity, emotional understanding and cooperative play while helping children build confidence in expressing their ideas.
Music and movement have also remained an important part of our program, providing regular opportunities for children to sing, dance, listen and respond to music.
Music supports listening, memory, language development, pattern recognition and early mathematical concepts such as counting and sequencing. Movement experiences help strengthen gross-motor skills, coordination, balance, spatial awareness and body control.
Together, music and movement encourage cognitive, physical and social learning while creating a joyful environment where children can express themselves, build confidence and learn alongside others.
One of the most exciting developments this term has been the growth in children's confidence and relationships. As they have become more comfortable within the kindergarten environment, they have formed close friendships while also expanding their social circles.
We are seeing children move beyond playing alongside one another and increasingly engage in cooperative group play. They are sharing ideas, negotiating roles, solving disagreements and creating shared experiences.
This progression is an important part of social development. Children are learning to communicate their ideas, listen to others, compromise and work towards common goals. We are also seeing them invite others into their play, develop shared storylines and collaborate to extend their experiences.
It has been wonderful to watch the Wattle children grow in confidence and see their play evolve into more cooperative, imaginative and collaborative experiences.
As we move into the final weeks of term, we will continue following the children's interests while intentionally supporting their emerging skills. We look forward to extending their creativity, literacy, dramatic play, physical development, music and movement, friendships and collaborative learning.
It has been wonderful to see how much the Wattle children have grown in confidence, independence and connection with one another.
