Term 3 Highlights 2026

Building Independence

As we move into Term 4, we will continue to focus on developing the children's independence skills. One area we would like to encourage is unpacking their bags when they arrive at kinder. We will also continue supporting children to pack their bags independently at the end of the day. You can support this learning at home by encouraging your child to take responsibility for their own belongings, such as unpacking and packing their bag.

Friendship and Kindness

We have also been focusing on building strong friendships and developing an understanding of kindness. After reading Fill a Bucket, we have been talking with the children about how we can "fill each other's buckets" through kind words and actions.

During mat times, we have discussed the importance of being kind, including everyone in our games and helping one another. This has also been a focus during buddy time.

Parents can support this learning at home by asking your child questions such as:

"How did you fill someone's bucket today?" - or - "How can we fill someone's bucket at home?"

Understanding Personal Space

We have also been supporting the children to understand personal space and body boundaries. We have been revisiting the concept of "body bubbles" through discussions, stories and everyday experiences, helping children develop an awareness of their own space and the space of others.

Book Week and Story Exploration

The children had a wonderful time last term dressing up for Book Week and sharing their favourite stories with us. We have also been exploring stories in which a wolf or fox takes on the role of the villain, including Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man, The Gruffalo, The Three Little Pigs, The Big Bad Wolf Is Good and On the Way Home. These stories inspired many discussions, dramatic play experiences and opportunities for children to compare characters and storylines.

Sun Safety Reminder

As the UV levels begin to increase, we will soon be returning to our hat and sunscreen routine. Please make sure you top up any suncream for their bags.

A Reminder About Spare Clothes

Please remember to check your child's bag and ensure they have a complete change of clothes. We currently have very few spare clothes available at kinder, so having a change of clothing in their bag is especially important.

Transition Sessions

The children have begun their transition sessions with their schools. We always encourage attendance at these sessions, as they play an important role in preparing children for the start of school. We understand this can be a busy and sometimes overwhelming time, and some children may feel worried about the changes ahead. We will continue to be mindful of this and support each child by following their lead and responding to their individual needs.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help the children develop confidence, independence, kindness and a positive sense of belonging as they prepare for this exciting transition to school.

Thanks,

Kirsty, Amy and Marilyn
