Mathematics at Mackellar

This semester all students across the school will spend time building their multiplicative thinking skills. Multiplicative thinking is more than memorising times tables. It helps children recognise equal groups, share fairly, use multiplication and division, and later understand fractions, percentages, ratio and algebra.
What are students learning this semester?
There are practical ways families can help build multiplication and division understanding at home
The most useful question you can ask is:
“HOW DID YOU WORK THAT OUT?”
Explaining a strategy develops reasoning, confidence and flexible mathematical thinking.
