Looking Ahead to Term 4

As we approach the end of Term 3, it is exciting to see the progress being made across our school. By the end of this term, we hope to see the completion of our new building, which will be a wonderful recreated space for Heatherwood School.

The new Specialist Hub will provide specialised learning spaces equipped with modern technology and state-of-the-art facilities, designed to enhance the learning experience for all students. The new outdoor areas are both beautiful and practical, providing Heatherwood students with spaces for recreation, sport, socialising and simply somewhere to chill out and relax. We look forward to seeing our students and staff making full use of these new spaces early in Term 4.

Supporting Every Student

This term, staff have been refining the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), which forms part of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0. MTSS recognises the important interrelationship between Learning, Engagement, and Health and Wellbeing as areas that influence student outcomes. 

Our primary focus has been on the universal supports we provide in our classrooms to ensure that every student is supported every day. We have been working towards greater consistency in our approaches to Learning, Engagement and Health and Wellbeing, ensuring that all students have the foundations they need to thrive.

Year 9 Camp

Our Year 9 students enjoyed their Charnwood camp this term, along with a day at Mt Buller. Although the weather conditions were poor and the heavens opened, it didn’t stop the students from participating in a variety of outdoor activities. 

Unfortunately, the Ski Camp had to be cancelled twice due to a lack of snow. Despite this disappointment, our students had participated in numerous educational sessions leading up to the camp and were well prepared for what they could expect in relation to ski conditions, snow safety, the physical fitness required for activities in the snow and, of course, how to dress appropriately for the conditions.

While the opportunity to ski was not possible this time, there will be other opportunities in the future. For now, we can enjoy the warmer spring weather and look forward to what the remainder of the year brings.
