Electives

Electives have been successful this term, with students engaging enthusiastically in a range of hands-on learning opportunities. From gardening and cooking, to woodwork at Ben’s Shed, students have been building practical skills while developing teamwork and independence. Bike Education and bike building have also been a great success, with students showing growing confidence and pride in their achievements. These electives continue to provide valuable, real-world learning experiences that support both skill development and student wellbeing.

In Electives, Raven and I did Cooking. We made apple and fig pastries, and pasta.

Firstly, Fran, Raven and I went outside to the fairy garden to pick some figs. They looked nice.

Then, we started with grating the carrots and the zucchini for the pasta sauce. I did the carrots, but I had to peel the skin off first, and Raven did the zucchini. Then we added the grated ingredients into the pasta sauce and put it on the heat to cook. Fran had the pasta boiling.

Lastly, we boiled the apples for the pastries, and after that we added the figs to the apples. We scooped the cooked fruit we made into the pastry and wrapped it up. We baked them in the oven.

When it was lunchtime and people tried the fig pastries, most loved them and wanted some more.

It was excellent for our last session!

Last Wednesday, Will and I grabbed our bikes like always and started riding. We can ride now! We had to be careful because Declan and Steven were learning to ride, as Grant was not there. We were just riding as normal until I ran into Neil, not literally. I asked him to please go and bring Ms Clarke out because she wanted to see us ride, as she hadn’t had the chance yet. So it was my lucky day. After a bit of riding and Ms Clarke watching us ride, we put the bikes away and grabbed pasta for lunch. Everyone is so impressed with how quickly we learned to ride. Thanks, Mr Bruder.
