Narratives and Persuasive Writing

Millgrove Seniors have been working on Narratives and Persuasive Writing pieces in Term 1. We’ve worked on structure layout, persuasive and descriptive language. Here a couple of our finished texts.

The ducks lived in the sawmill

Bob and Tim lived in an old broken tractor as brothers. Everyday, they meet their famous friend Mick near a dirty, green swamp away from all the gross littering humans for a little morning swim. One cold night, it was raining and thundering. Tim and Bob woke early because of the heavy rain. They were bored so they walked to the swamp early for a longer swim.

After a while, they noticed the stagnant water moving beneath them.

"What even is that?” questioned Tim.

“Go to the shore!” announced Bob. After they got to the shore, they saw a giant alligator racing towards them through the water.

“RUN!!!” shouted Bob. They sprinted very fast with their stubby little legs. They spotted Mick on the way coming towards the swamp so the alligator decided to go get some duck because it was a bit chubbier than Tim and Bob. Tim watched Mick get devoured by the greedy alligator . They remembered that they had wings and flew away with victory!

“That was very close to him slicing us like cheese!” said Bob in a surprised voice.

“Just like Mick!” Tim added.

“Don’t say that,” said  Bob.

“BUT HE DID,” said Tim back. Bob didn't believe him.

After a few days, they landed in a green swamp that looked identical to the one the alligator was in.

“I’m going to sleep-Bye!” decided Tim.

“No! Don’t!” yelled Bob but it was too late. Bob shook & pushed Tim but still, he would not wake.

Soon after that, Bob saw something familiar in the water about to breach in the water beneath him. He knew it wouldn't be worth it trying to wake up his brother, so he swam right to the shore. Seconds  later, he looked behind him to see Tim sleeping but he was GONE. That really frightened Bob which made him sprint towards the city with both wings.

“Help!!!” screeched Bob but no one answered or came. “OUCH!” yelped Bob again for help as the alligator chomped off his left wing. Now only his right wing gives him the boost straight to the city.

Just as he reached the city he couldn't see anyone or hear anyone. ‘The alligator must have eaten everyone,’ thought Bob. That's when he looked behind himself as he heard a grumbling noise and it was a stack of alligators. He had no chance of escaping now so he just closed his eyes and hoped for the best, then opened them again and saw himself as an alligator.

“WOW,” said Bob in amazement.

“It's me, Tim! Your brother!” Tim called over the crowd of alligators in duck language.

“Hello! Is that actually you? Do you think everything got eaten and turned into an alligator?” ranted Bob.

“Absolutely!” replied Tim.

They lived a happier, longer life as alligators.

Vegetable Garden

I strongly believe that all households and schools need to have a vegetable garden. You can help the environment.

Firstly, children can become fit and healthy by planting their own food and making their meals with such ingredients!

Secondly, you don’t pollute the air as much, because you don’t need to drive to the store as often.

Finally, you will gradually get better at planting, allowing you to plant even more fruit and vegetables! You don’t need to pay for the fruits and vegetables, since you grew them yourself. (Excluding plant seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, basically everything else to grow and help your plants).

At the end of the day, I hope I have convinced you to plant your own fruit and vegetable garden, especially as Australia is currently experiencing challenges with food and petrol costs. Have fun planting your garden!
