Year 5/6 Cluster News
Year 6 Graduation:We would like to share a photo gallery of the graduating class on graduation night. We need 2 photos of your child to show how they have grown up into the students we know today. Please include a baby photo and first day of school photo. These photos can be emailed to Jade Fielke (fielke.jade@goldengrove.sa.edu.au) by the end of Term 3. This will allow us to get them into a variety of formats to celebrate our wonderful Year 6s. We are finalising details for the Graduation Dinner at Dimples, Tea Tree Gully Golf Course on Wednesday, November 25th. This is a wonderful night to honour and share with our Year 6 families! More information will be available early next term.
HOME INQUIRY:
Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.
Mathematics: Continuing to develop their recall of multiplication facts, with the goal of building automatic recall of multiplication facts up to 10 × 10.
Reader’s Workshop:
We are continuing our novel study of Hatchet, which connects closely with our Unit of Inquiry, Sharing the Planet.
Mathematics:
Students have been inquiring into different types of angles, including complementary and supplementary angles. We will now explore how angles are used in real-life contexts, identifying angle relationships in everyday objects, buildings and designs. Students will also investigate angles on a straight line, angles around a point and vertically opposite angles, using their understanding to calculate unknown angles and explain their reasoning.
Inquiry:
Students have been engaging in our How We Express Ourselves unit, which will culminate in our Exhibition/Celebration of Learning. Students have chosen an area of interest and developed deep conceptual questions about their area of focus. These questions are guiding their research and supporting them to explore their chosen issue more deeply, building their knowledge and understanding as they continue their learning journey.
Students are now continuing their research while beginning to plan and explore different ways they can advocate for their passion or issue and take meaningful action. An email will be sent to Year 6 families outlining how students can be supported at home as they finalise how they would like to take action for their exhibition.
Books week- book swap:
Students/families are invited to donate pre-loved books in good condition ASAP.
Next week they can bring in a gold coin donation to participate in the book swap event.
