What a wonderful, jam-packed week it has been in our school community!
Trivia Night – Thank You!
A huge thank you to our P & F Committee, especially Sarah Kumela and Wendy Carmen, for their outstanding work in organising such a fantastic Trivia Night last Saturday evening. It was a real blessing to see so many families and members of our school, church and wider communities coming together for a great night of community fun and connection.
We are so grateful for the generosity of our sponsors, and for the wonderful array of raffle prizes on offer. Proceeds from the evening will go towards the installation of a drinking fountain near the oval for our students. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the evening in so many ways.
Community Breakfast & Book Week Celebrations
Thank you also to our P & F Committee for putting on a delicious community breakfast of muffins, coffee, and tea before school on Tuesday. It was fantastic to see so many students, staff and families gathered together to start the day in community.
The children looked absolutely amazing in their Book Week costumes! From breakfast, we moved into our Book Week Parade in the Worship Centre, where we saw a wonderful array of costumes and much-loved books brought to life. Thank you to our staff team and the many parents who also dressed up and joined in the fun — it added to the joy of the day!
Following the parade, a number of our staff led a "Read-a-Round," with students rotating through different locations around the school to enjoy a range of stories. A huge thank you to Mrs Carter, our Librarian, for arranging such a wonderful day for our students.
Festival of Music
Congratulations to our students who attended Festival of Music rehearsals on Wednesday — our Senior Choir is sounding amazing! We look forward to hearing more as preparations continue.
Parent Workshop – Thursday 3rd September
Next week we welcome Mark Le Messurier, presenting a Parent Workshop:
"The Intriguing 'ART' of Managing Tricky Behaviours Kindly and Effectively" Thursday 3rd September, 7pm, Worship Centre
Whether you're a parent, caregiver, or grandparent, we all share the same goal: raising happy, confident and resilient children. This workshop focuses on those tricky moments when we need to hold a boundary or follow through on an expectation.
You've probably heard the term "gentle parenting" — and there's often confusion about what it really means. Mark will explain the important difference between permissive parenting (which avoids rules and conflict, but can leave kids feeling anxious and under-supported) and gentle parenting (which leads with kindness while still maintaining clear, consistent boundaries). The "gentle" part isn't about giving in — it's about how we respond to a child's reaction, with leadership, care and connection.
As a token of appreciation for braving the cold winter evening, every parent who attends will go home with a free copy of Mark's book, Parenting Tough Kids!
We'd love to see as many parents, caregivers and grandparents there as possible.
Sports Day - Friday 11 September
We are looking forward to Sports Day on Friday, 11 September. It is always a real highlight of our school calendar and a wonderful community event. Despite an unusually wet August, the oval is drying out well. We are hopeful this trend continues and will keep you updated by the end of next week if there is any further wet weather impact. If significant rain means we need to reschedule, the new date would be Friday, 16 October (the first week of Term 4).

- Friday 4 September – Pupil Free Day. GGOSH will be available for families who need care. Staff will be taking part in a seminar exploring AI and its appropriate use, considering how these technological developments relate to education.

The Great Book Swap – Week 7 (Monday 31 August – Thursday 4 September)
Hot on its heels, The Great Book Swap runs in Week 7 (Monday 31 August – Thursday 4 September). For a gold coin donation, students can swap a book they've finished for a new one to enjoy, with proceeds supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Book donations can be dropped at the Front Office or Sunnybrook Library by 26 August.
LLL - Charitable Donations Program
We're thrilled to partner with LLL Australia to bring you a meaningful way to support our school through their Charitable Donation Program.
Your generosity in making a deposit with the LLL through a Charitable Facility Account which will assist us in upgrading our Foundation playground.
The funds you hold in your Facility will generate notional amounts of interest that is retained by LLL who will make a regular allocation to us to further our project, while your original investment remains completely untouched.
