News from our Environment Leaders!

Our Environment Leaders have been busy collecting Batteries for the Casey Batter Blitz. They have also organised a ‘Rubbish Free Day’ on Wednesday September 2nd. This is due to the amount of single use plastic wrappers being dropped around the school. 

So, on Wednesday the 2nd of September, we encourage all students to pack their school lunchboxes with food with no single-use packaging or food that has already been unwrapped or food that doesn’t have a wrapper at all. 

They can pack their food in reusable containers, use a drink bottle instead of juice boxes, bring fresh fruit and split bulk snack packets into small tubs and containers.

The class that brings the least amount of rubbish to school on Wednesday the 2nd of September will win 20 minutes of extra playtime! Class teachers will tally up their classes rubbish and we’ll announce the Rubbish Free Champs on Friday the 4th of September.

Our Battery Blitz ends on September 4th, so please keep sending in those batteries to our grade 6 classrooms! 

Why are we doing this? 

Batteries are a highly problematic waste item when thrown into regular bins. They contain hazardous materials and are increasingly responsible for causing dangerous fires in collection trucks and waste facilities. By recycling them through this competition, we are keeping our community safe and keeping toxic waste out of landfill. 

How you can help us win: 

We need your used household batteries! We are collecting: 

• AA and AAA batteries 

• C and D batteries 

• Button/coin cell batteries 

Please send your batteries to school with your child in a sealed container or zip-lock bag and drop them into the official collection buckets located in the Grade 6 classrooms.  

To ensure the safety of our younger students, only those students in years 3, 4, 5 & 6 are to bring batteries to school.
