Buongiorno tutti!

The first semester has gone by so quickly. I can't believe we are just over half the year.   “Mamma Mia pizzeria!!”

Both year levels started the year with some revision work to stir the cogs i.e. geographical information, greetings, numbers including Roman numerals, colours and days of the week.

Grade 5s created a geographical report in collaboration with a partner and an animal report independently, which took some time, creating simple sentences to describe different areas of the animal’s life.

This semester Grade 5 students have been learning about the names of some articles of clothing, to then construct a simple script to mimic the purchasing of clothing in a shop.  Students will start to perform their plays in front of their Italian class this week.

Grade 6 students have also spent some of semester 1 revising some of the basic concepts taught in previous years, completing a geographical report and an animal report.  Grade 6s enjoyed the Roman numeral challenges of decoding tricky numbers.  Students have been learning about Ancient Rome and gladiators, demonstrating their knowledge in digital form.

Grade 5 and 6 students have had the opportunity to buddy up with a pen pal from a local school's  Italian students, and have been starting to write letters to them.  Both year levels have experienced tasting an in-house gelato made from frozen fruit, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

In October, a number of students will be going to the Italian City camp, which I am looking forward to.
