Grade 6

It has been another busy and exciting time in Grade 6, with students embracing new learning experiences, challenging themselves and, most importantly, having plenty of fun along the way!

Maths

Our Grade 6 mathematicians have been developing their understanding of a range of geometry and number concepts. Students have been exploring the Cartesian plane, using coordinates to locate and describe points, as well as working with integers on a number line.

We have also been investigating transformations and tessellations, discovering how shapes can be translated, reflected and rotated to create interesting patterns.

Our learning has also extended into 3D shapes and cross-sections, as well as angles, where students have been applying their mathematical thinking to solve a variety of problems. There has been lots of hands-on learning and plenty of opportunities for students to explain and justify their mathematical thinking.

English

Our Blueback book study has continued to provide rich opportunities for students to explore characters, themes and important ideas through literature.

A real highlight has been our Book Week unit, centred around Readers Theatre. Students have absolutely loved bringing scripts to life, developing their expression, fluency and confidence as they perform in front of their classmates. They have been working collaboratively to rehearse their scripts and are very excited to perform their fractured version of The Day the Crayons Quit. It has been wonderful to see so many students stepping outside their comfort zones and embracing the opportunity to perform!

MasterChef

Our Grade 6 MasterChef challenge has been a huge hit! Students have been working in pairs to plan, prepare and cook an impressive main meal and dessert, putting their teamwork, organisation and problem-solving skills to the test.

Some classes have already completed their MasterChef challenge and have produced some amazing creations, while other classes are eagerly looking forward to their turn later in the term. There has certainly been plenty of excitement in the kitchen!

Grade 6 Sport

Fridays have been filled with fun and energy during Grade 6 Sport, where students have enjoyed playing a range of different games and competing against other Grade 6 classes. It has been fantastic to see students demonstrating teamwork, sportsmanship and encouragement while enjoying some friendly competition.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, creativity and resilience our Grade 6 students continue to demonstrate across all areas of their learning. What a fantastic term it has been so far!
