Grade 6

Literacy
In Literacy, students have continued reading Rivet Boy, strengthening their comprehension and engaging in thoughtful class discussions while learning about the construction of the Forth Bridge. It has been wonderful to see their interest deepen as they connect the historical context to the story.
Our writing focus has been on developing more complex sentence structures, and students have been introduced to the concept of juxtaposition to enhance both descriptive and persuasive writing. They are beginning to confidently experiment with placing contrasting ideas side by side to create greater impact and depth.
We are also continuing our persuasive writing unit. Students have drafted their introduction and first body paragraph, focusing on effective high-modality language, emotive vocabulary, and distinguishing between personal and objective viewpoints. It has been very pleasing to see their confidence grow as their arguments become more thoughtful and well-structured.
Mathematics
We have recently completed our data unit, where students interpreted pie graphs, identified range and mode, and explored the shape of data distributions. They learned to recognise positively skewed, negatively skewed, uniform, and symmetrical graphs, building a strong foundation in data analysis.
This week, we have moved into number concepts, including prime and composite numbers. Students are using factors to support more efficient calculations and are exploring square and triangular numbers. It has been encouraging to see them apply their reasoning skills and make connections across concepts.
Humanities (History)
This term in History, students have been investigating the six Australian colonies and examining the reasons for their establishment. They are beginning to understand how these early decisions have shaped modern Australia, and discussions have been thoughtful and engaging.
Netball Clinic
Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Netball Clinic this week. They practised fundamental skills with enthusiasm and demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the session. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces and positive encouragement on display.
