RESIDENTIAL

Bernard.Murnane@education.wa.edu.au

It’s really nice to see everyone back, and it’s exciting to welcome our new students as they arrive full of anticipation. It has been a very busy week, with plenty of socialising in and around the residence, and from what I have seen, most students are happy with their dorms.

REACH

We have provided explicit training on the REACH Boarding System for all new students regarding leave applications. Thank you to Mr Standford and Ms Sparks for delivering the training, along with several returning students who assisted by sharing their hands-on knowledge. We understand that this process can be a little daunting, but it is a necessary requirement for students who wish to take leave from the residence.

We will assist anyone who requires further help and will always guide students to understand where issues may have occurred. Most commonly, errors relate to dates, times, or leave types.

Day leave must be submitted at least one day in advance, as requests are collated into the daily running sheet for the following day.

Weekend leave must be submitted by Tuesday night. This allows time to ensure all leave requests are correct by Thursday morning, enables staff planning for Saturday and Sunday supervision, and ensures we remain within industrial requirements.

Banned Items

One item at the top of our banned items list is aerosol deodorant cans. There are several clear reasons for this. Some individuals can have severe reactions to the scent, and in the past, aerosol use has triggered fire alarms.

The current cost of a fire brigade call-out for a false alarm is $1,388.00, and this charge is passed directly to the family of the student responsible. Students have been given an amnesty for this week to take any aerosol cans home, and no further action will be taken during this period. We believe this is a fair approach.

However, from next Monday onwards, any aerosol cans found will be managed in accordance with College guidelines.

Weekend Activities

This weekend, students who have chosen to stay in will enjoy the famous Harvey Tour, along with a range of other fun activities both on-site and in the local area.
