That's a Wicket!

Tuesday the 10th of October saw Beaufort enter two sides in the Eureka Year 7 and 8 Cricket Competition. One comprised of girls, and one comprised of boys which competed in their respective division.

The girls had three matches for the day. In their first game they were defeated by Mount Clear Secondary College. Z earned a clean bowled for her bowling efforts and even though Emilie and Macey were nice and vocal in the field, it wasn’t enough.

In their second game they were defeated by Woodmans Hill Secondary College, but their game displayed signs of improvement. Tess bowled really well, Rhianna achieved a 'run out' and Hazel ran quickly between the wickets. Meanwhile Tara and Pippa were smashing out some big hits with the bat.

In their final match the girls played Ballarat High School, with Beaufort bowling first. Rhianna achieved a 'clean bowled', Evalyn managed a 'run out' and Summer was a terrific wicket keeper, which result in Ballarat High only making 38 runs. In our batting innings, Matilda and Katie ran an excellent two, which involved Katie falling over, but miraculously jumping back up, in a great display of spirit. During the final over, the girls needed seven to win and six to draw. Meg hit a four, then in addition to a wide ball, they finally ran a single. However, a runout on the last ball meant the match was a tie, giving the day a thrilling finish!

The boys only had one match on the 10th, a Twenty20 against Mount Clear Secondary College. Beaufort bowled first with Tom Grant, Zac and Harry all bowling economically. Liam took one wicket, while Javiar took two. There was great fielding from all, which led to 4 wickets from runouts, leaving only 29 extras off 20 overs which was crucial. Play of the day went to Bailey, who took a great catch in chest mark style.

In the batting innings Rory dominated hitting a number of sixes and made 57 runs. Kody hit two fours, while Zavier and Billy managed to make some runs. Tom Kehoe hung in bravely at the end, whilst Rory hit the ball to all areas of the field, helping the side to a famous one run victory!

The boys team made it through to the next stage, which was held on the following Tuesday. Their opposition was Ballarat High School in the semi-final, which they defeated by 25 runs, with noteworthy performances from Kody, Tom Grant, Rory and Harry. The next game was the Grand Final, in which they won out against Mount Rowan. It was a massive effort from the whole team, winning by just 13 runs. After progressing through the finals day, the boys went on to play in the GWR Cricket tournament on Tuesday the 24th of October. Unfortunately they didn't make it through to the next round, however they should all be commended for their outstanding teamwork, behaviour and effort. Congratulations for making it as far as you did!

The team would like to thank Bailey Mcphan for stepping in when they needed an extra and Megan for the oranges, transport and general assistance. Mr. Tatchell for coaching and supporting us and lastly, to Mr. Webb for organising everything.
