Poetic Portraits

Congratulations to Year 11 student, Scarlett Vandenberg for her involvement in a new poetry project initiated by two Melbourne poets (Cassandra Atherton and Jessica L. Wilkinson) and supported by the Australian Council for the Arts and the Pyrenees Shire.

Scarlett was selected to be a ‘mentee’, which involved developing her leadership skills while working with local poets. Her role included providing feedback on their poems and working with our community members on a collaborative piece. The organisers were impressed with Scarlett’s contribution to the project and we congratulate her for accepting, and rising to, this challenge.

Participants were involved in workshops and an evening at which the final poems were shared and celebrated. A book of the poems, ‘Beaufort Poetic Portraits’ has been published and we are fortunate to have a copy in the library.
